황병승의 시는 '시코쿠'가 우리에게 '날마다' 보내는 '연애편지'(여장남자 시코쿠)다. 그런데 우리는 시코쿠의 필통에 빨간 글씨로 '똥'이라고 써 되돌려줬다. 그것은 시코쿠의 편지를 구애의 행위로 오독했기 때문이다. 그러는 사이 시코쿠는 세상의 비겁함을 홀로 견디고 있다. 절판되었던 첫 시집이 새 표지를 입고 복간되었으니 우리는 다시 시코쿠의 편지를 받은 셈이다. 시코쿠의 여장을 벗기려 해봐야 거기 우리가 기대하는 얼굴은 없을 것이다. 시코쿠가 '강령한 거짓'으로 위장해 우리에게 꼭 전하고자 하는 '진실'에 귀기울여 보자.

저 : 황병승 1970년 서울에서 태어나, 2003년 《파라21》에 「주치의 h」 외 5편의 시를 발표하며 문단에 나왔다. 시집으로 『여장남자 시코쿠』, 『트랙과 들판의 별』이 있다. 박인환문학상을 수상했다.
