Welcome to the World of the Moomins

They are a family of hippo-like creatures, and together they’re known as the Moomins. Created by Finnish artist Tove Jansson, these characters, along with their friends, have enchanted children and adults for over half a century.
Jansson started drawing the Moomins during World War II as a way to take her mind off the horrors of war. Soon after the war ended, she published her first Moomin book, The Moomins and the Great Flood, followed by Comet in Moominland one year later.
Jansson began attracting international attention after the translation of her third book, Finn Family Moomintroll, into English. In 1954, a popular British newspaper started running a daily comic strip called Moomin. This brought the adventures of the family to 20 million people every day.
Books featuring the Moomins have been translated into nearly 50 languages, and the Moomin world has expanded to include various TV series, films, and a museum. There are even theme parks in both Finland and Japan. People just can’t get enough of these good-natured characters.
牠們是一群像河馬的生物，合稱為嚕嚕米一族。這些角色以及牠們的朋友是由芬蘭藝術家朵貝．楊笙所創造，半個多世紀以來讓大人和小孩都深受著迷。
楊笙在二次世界大戰期間開始畫嚕嚕米一族，作為讓她暫時忘記戰爭恐怖的方式。戰後不久，她出版了第一本嚕嚕米的書《姆米與大洪水》，接著一年後又出版了《姆米谷的彗星》。
在楊笙的第三本書《快樂的姆米家庭》譯為英文版本後，她開始引起國際的注意。一九五四年，一份著名的英國報紙開始刊登名為《嚕嚕米》的每日連環漫畫，每天將嚕嚕米家族的冒險經歷帶給兩千萬名讀者。
以嚕嚕米一族為主的書已被譯成將近五十種語言，而嚕嚕米世界已擴展到包含各式各樣的電視系列節目、電影以及一間博物館。在芬蘭和日本甚至還有主題樂園。人們對這些性情溫和的角色就是再怎麼樣也不嫌多。
Proof of Moomin-mania can be found everywhere. Universities in Sweden used to offer classes devoted to Moomin studies. Moomin characters have also made it onto a question for a university entrance examination in Japan. A cookbook published in 2010 teaches fans how to make the same dishes that the Moomins eat. Those that would rather dine out can select from one of the Moomin cafés located around the world, including one in Taipei.
The appeal of the Moomins may be due to their personalities and the themes their stories touch upon. Good-natured Moomintroll loves hanging out with his friends, collecting rocks and shells by the sea, and above all, being with his family. Moominmamma is wise and never gets angry. Moominpappa, a boy at heart, loves adventures and surprises. With a host of others, they live peacefully in Moominvalley. There, they solve problems through love, friendship, and tolerance.
The importance of such values never goes away. Maybe that’s why the Moomins continue to capture people’s hearts and imaginations around the world.
嚕嚕米狂熱的證明到處都可以找得到。瑞典的大學過去曾開過探討嚕嚕米研究的課程。嚕嚕米的角色也出現在日本一所大學的入學測驗試題中。二○一○年出版的一本食譜教粉絲如何製作和嚕嚕米所吃一樣的菜餚。那些寧可在外用餐的人可以在全球各地的嚕嚕米咖啡簡餐店中挑選一間，包括一間在台北的分店。
嚕嚕米一族之所以吸引人可能是因為牠們的個性和故事所觸及的主題。性情溫和的嚕嚕米喜歡和朋友一起閒晃、蒐集海邊的石頭和貝殼，而且最重要的是，和家人在一起。嚕嚕米媽媽很有智慧且從不生氣。嚕嚕米爸爸是個大男孩，喜歡冒險和驚喜。牠們和許多其他角色在嚕嚕米谷過著和平的生活。在那裡，牠們透過愛、友誼和寬容來解決問題。
這樣的價值觀的重要性永遠不會消失。也許那就是嚕嚕米一族持續擄獲世人的心並且引人入勝的原因。
