로마에서는 결혼식에서 신랑과 신부 왼손 약손가락에 반지를 끼워 주었다고 한다. 왼손에 약손가락을 선택한 이유는 17세기에 마크로비우스(Macrobius)라고 하는 사람이 ‘왼손에 약손가락은 심장으로 특수한 혈관이 직접 통하여 따뜻하고 강력한 혈액이 순환한다. 이에 약손가락은 심장 그것과 다름없으니 결혼반지를 끼워주는데 가장 적합한 손가락이라고 말한 데에서 시작되었다’는 것이다.본문 중에서
