『구한국외교문서(舊韓國外交文書)』는 규장각 소장 문서로 1876~1910년까지 조선(대한제국)과 청, 일본 및 서구 열강 사이에 오고 간 공문서로 부속문서 8권을 포함하여 총 30권으로 구성되었다. 일안(日案)은 1876~1905년까지 일본과 주고받은 외교문서로 1~7권이다. 『일안』은 한일 간 근대적 조약관계가 성립하는 1876년부터 일본이 한국의 외교권을 완전히 강탈하는 1906년 초반까지의 시기를 포함하고있다. 그런 점에서 이 자료집은 근대 한일관계를 가장 근본에서 입체적으로 보여 줄 수 있는 자료다. 특히 조선과 일본이 어업 문제를 둘러싸고 교섭한 사안이 상세하게 수록되었다. 또한 1884년 갑신정변 당시의 상황도 상세하게 기록되었다. 이 자료집이 향후 한일관계사 연구에 기초적인 자료로 활용되기를 바란다.
