香港城區因應發展需要，歷經無數次填海、拆遷、舊區重建，城市風貌不斷改變。1841 年，香港中區第一次填海，及後落成了大會堂、新郵政總局及交易廣場等地標式的建築物。中上環發展多年，成為集消費、宴飲一身的高檔商業區。 灣仔早期被稱為「杉排」之日、月、星街一帶，於1990 年代起，蛻變為高尚住宅區以及蘭桂坊消閒地帶，比鄰的喜帖街亦變身為集飲食、購物消閒於一身的步行街。1950 年前後，璇宮（皇都）及都城戲院在北角開幕，其繁華程度一如現時的銅鑼灣。 東區太古洋行的糖廠、漆廠及船塢，於1960 年代中起，逐漸改建為私人商住樓宇。2019 年南港島線通車後，南區交通變得十分便捷，而享負盛名的地標珍寶海鮮舫則於2022 年在南海沉沒。
