Small talk，是個性還是文化？
有時候我覺得英文真是個有趣的語言，它本身就自帶了一種研究精神。比如說，英文的用字要精準、句構講究因果。身為中文母語者，你可能覺得英文好囉唆，中文每說一句英文就要用三句解釋，但對聽話者來說，清清楚楚地明白說話者的意圖，其實是很有效的溝通方式。
在製作本期的主題 Small Talk 時，我們還看到了更多英文的可能性。Small talk 翻作中文是閒聊、瞎聊、尬聊，任何一種非正式的或目的曖昧的談話，都可以稱作 small talk。這種談話看似無用，在英文世界卻很有自己的一席之地，有人說，在重視「connection」的美式文化中，small talk 是獲得彼此信任的重要技能。
Small talk 還是國際社交。有些國家出了名的不愛閒聊，例如北歐三國，芬蘭、瑞典、挪威，但是當他們主動開啟閒聊，代表你已經被他們接納；再例如講話彎彎繞繞的法國人，與人談天像是在美食旁擺上體面的葡萄酒，是藝術也是氣度，缺一不可。
講了這麼多，small talk 屬於個性還是文化？該怎麼學？英語島一向熱愛將語言以文化差異的方式拆解，我們的答案是：Have Fun! 你不用強迫自己變得愛聊天，再多技巧都只是讓你更輕鬆地做自己而已，輕鬆地找一個自己喜歡的說話步調吧！
