東漢桓譚著。共二十九篇，早亡佚。《弘明集》中載有《新論·形神》一文。反對讖緯神學、災異迷信。闡述了形“神”即形體同精神的關係問題，認爲“精神居形體，猶火之然（燃）燭矣”，燭完則火滅，形體死亡，精神不復存在。今《桓子新論》以清代嚴可均（全後漢文）輯本較爲完備。

桓譚（公元前23年－公元50年），東漢哲學家、經學家、琴家。字君山，沛國相（今安徽濉溪縣西北）人。愛好音律，善鼓琴，博學多通，遍習五經，喜非毀俗儒。

桓譚（？—５６）字君山，沛國相（今安徽省宿縣）人。東漢立國之初，他一再上書請禁讖緯，幾遭殺身之禍。桓譚著有《新論》一書，其主旨就是反對迷信思想。其書已失傳，存有不少片斷。王充對《新論》評價很高，說：“挾桓君山之書，富於積猗頓之財。”（《論衡。佚文篇》）又說《新論》“論世間事，辯照然否，虛妄之言，僞飾之辭，莫不證定”（《論衡。超奇篇》）。可以說，桓譚正是王充的先導。
