About this ebook

The story begins with an unusual and satirical political scene where people chant for "Less bread! More taxes!" The narrator finds himself shifting between reality and a dreamlike world, encountering a mysterious lady, the "Unknown Friend." He meets Sylvie and Bruno, two fairy-like children, and observes their adventures through both fantasy and reality. As the story unfolds, various whimsical characters appear, including a beggar who turns out to be a king and a baron engaged in secretive dealings. A magical locket plays a central role, granting special abilities and affecting the characters’ fates. Sylvie and Bruno embark on a journey that takes them on strange rides, including one on a lion. They encounter jesters, bears, and a peculiar professor whose odd inventions add to the surreal atmosphere. Along the way, they visit Dogland, a fantastical place ruled by dogs, deepening the fairy-tale quality of the story.
