About the author
Lafcadio Hearn (1850–1904) wurde auf der griechischen Insel Santa Maura geboren, wuchs in Frankreich und England auf und lebte später in den USA. 1890 wurde er von der Zeitschrift »Harper's New Monthly« als Berichterstatter nach Japan entsandt. Er heiratete eine Japanerin und arbeitete als Professor für englische Literatur an der Universität von Tokio.
