About this ebook

THE BELOVED COMING-OF-AGE CLASSIC, NOW A WORLDWIDE BESTSELLER

During a restless summer on the Italian Riviera, a powerful romance blooms between seventeen-year-old Elio and his father's house guest, Oliver. Unrelenting currents of obsession and fear, fascination and desire threaten to overwhelm the lovers who at first feign indifference to the charge between them.

What grows from the depths of their souls is a romance of scarcely six weeks' duration, and an experience that marks them for a lifetime. For what the two discover on the Riviera and during a sultry evening in Rome is the one thing they both already fear they may never truly find again: total intimacy.

Rediscover one of the great love stories of our time.

This was different from what I usually read but my curiosity was piqued following the release of the movie adaptation recently. This is, while a very memorable book which at times can be erotic and explicit, not always easy to follow and often I found myself having to re-read passages. I also felt the ending was somewhat rushed considering the time taken in the book to explore the relationship. It will be interesting to see how the film adaptation compares.

I enjoyed most of this story though I couldn't relate to the main characters as they were two dimensional. I concluded that this was intentional, like reading a cartoon where the bubbles are clear but the speakers were fogged and indescribable. The passions were real though and universal.

Watched the movie twice then read the book the day after. Great love story since 1985 Out Of Africa. The message of parallel lives hauntingly resonated - first and subsequent loves are threads that are part of our life's fabric which serve to be our comfort blanket. Joy and sadness are two sides of the same coin. Great book!
