이 책은 러시아 문학가 ‘막심 고리키(Maxim Gorky)’의 번역 소설작이며, 원제는 『One Autumn Night(1895)』를 저작으로 한 것이다. 이 책은 1922년에 기고 발표한 것으로 빙허의 몇 가지 번역 작품 중 하나이다. 당시 러시아 문학에서 당시 고리키 작품은 많은 번역물이 출간되었다. 본문은 원문을 훼손되지 않도록 하였고 되도록 현재 맞춤법을 따랐다.
