저자 조중걸은 서울대학교, 파리3대학, 예일대학교를 졸업하고 시카고대학교 부설 예술학교, 토론토대학교 부설 예술학교에서 강의했다. 저서로는 《서양예술사: 형이상학적 해명》(전5권), 《키치, 달콤한 독약》, 《플라톤에서 비트겐슈타인까지》, 《서양미술사 철학으로 읽기》, 《러브 온톨로지》 등이 있다.
