약선 저자 약선若善은 『창검천왕』은 무협에서 경시됐던 민중(백성, 주인공의 이름과 더불어 많이 나오는 단어)과 군대를 전면에 내세웠다. 명나라 중기 성화제 치세에 실제 있었던 형양의 농민 봉기와 광서의 백련교 봉기를 모티브로 역사와 무협, 허구를 적절히 조화시켰다. 민중을 외면하고, 탐학과 부패에 열을 올리는 정권과 무림. 그들을 상대하기엔 민중은 물론 변방의 군대 역시 소모품처럼 기억되었다가 사라질 절대 약자였다. 하지만 그 약자가 진실된 주인공을 만나 단결될 때 어떻게 달라지는지, 그 하나를 기준으로 흥미진진하고 박진감 넘치게 풀어냈다.
