About the author
고려대학교 문과대학 사학과를 졸업했고 같은 대학에서 한국고대사를 전공하여 박사학위를 받았으며, 현재 전남대학교 사학과 교수로 있다.
미국 하버드대학 Yenching Institute 및 영국 런던대학 SOAS에 방문 연구한 경험이 있으며, 한국고대사학회 회장을 역임했다.
한국 고대사 관련 기본 자료의 성격 및 형성 과정, 그리고 그를 통해 본 한국 고대인들의 사유 방식 등 주로 사학사적 맥락과 지성사적 관점에서 고대 문헌 연구에 집중하고 있다.
대표적 저술로는 『삼국사기 전거론』, 『삼국사기 형성론』, 『삼국사기 인식론』 등 『삼국사기』에 대한 점층적 문헌 연구 성과 3부작과 『삼국사기』 I·II(역주서) 및 『原本 三國史記』(교감서)가 있다.
