“...아이. 못 지켜서 미안해요.” 젖은 머리카락 끝에서 물이 뚝뚝 떨어지는 모습을 눈에 담았다. 떨어지는 물이 마치 눈물 같다. 그의 입에서 긴 한숨이 흘렀다. “애야 다시 가지면 되는 거고.” “....그, 그렇죠.” 볼 안쪽 살을 세게 깨물었다. 당연히 위로는 없을 줄 알았다. 몸은 괜찮냐는 말 따위 기대하지도 않았다. 그런데 왜....... 왜? 목울대가 뜨거워지는 거지? 그의 시선을 피해 머리카락을 귀에 꽂는데 그가 다가왔다. 순식간에 달라지는 분위기를 느끼고 그가 다가온 만큼 주춤, 뒤로 물러났다. 그의 눈썹이 치켜 올라간다. “먼저 주무세요.” 자리를 피해야겠다는 생각이 들어서 몸을 돌리는데 손목이 잡혔다. “어디 가?” “아.... 물 좀.......” 생각을 꿰뚫을 듯 진득한 시선이 얼굴 위에 달라붙었다. 예진이 눈을 내려 손목을 잡고 있는 그의 손을 쳐다보았다. “누워.” “피곤하실.......” 그의 손바닥은 뜨거운데, 목소리는 시리도록 차가워서. 그의 얼굴을 똑바로 보지 못하고 고개를 숙였다. “괜찮으니까 옷 벗고 누우라고.” “......” “하게 누우라고.” 물러날 생각이 없는 그를 느끼고 마른침을 삼켰다.
