하이데거는 니체를 ‘니힐리즘을 역사적 과정으로서 인식한 최초의 사상가’로 평하고 있지만, 니체 못지않게 하이데거도 니힐리즘을 서양의 역사 전체를 지배해 온 역사적 운동이라고 보고 있다. 니체와 하이데거는 이렇게 서양의 역사를 니힐리즘이 지배해 온 역사로 보면서 자신들의 사상적 과제를 니힐리즘의 극복에서 찾고 있다. 양자 사이에 존재하는 이러한 유사성에도 불구하고, 하이데거는 니힐리즘에 대한 니체의 대결은 니힐리즘의 극복이 아니라 완성으로 끝났다고 보았다. 「“신은 죽었다”는 니체의 말」이라는 하이데거의 글에서 우리는 니힐리즘을 둘러싸고 니체와 하이데거라는 19세기와 20세기의 사상적 두 거인이 벌이는 투쟁을 목격할 수 있다.

About the author
1960년 전북 전주에서 태어났다. 서울대 철학과를 졸업하고, 같은 학교 대학원에서 석사학위를, 독일 Wurzbrug대학에서 철학박사학위를 받았다. 호서대 철학과 교수를 역임하고, 현재 서울대 철학과 교수로 재직 중이다. 지은책으로 『하이데거 -그 생애와 사상』(공저) 등이 있고, 옮긴책으로 『헤겔 철학과 현대의 위기』, 『마르크스주의와 헤겔』, 『실존철학과 형이상학의 위기』등이 있다.
