미야자와 겐지가 생전에 출간한 유일한 동화집(초판본) 중에 『주문이 많은 식당(注文の多い料理店)』(1924)에 수록된 작품이다. 모두 9편이 수록되어 있는데, 이들 중 『도토리와 들고양이(どんぐりと山猫)』다. 어느 가을 토요일, 이치로 소년에게 서툴고 실수투성이인 문장으로 쓰인 수상한 엽서가 도착하면서 이야기가 시작된다. 다음 날 귀찮은 재판이 있으니 꼭 참석해 달라는 내용인데, 발신자는 들고양이로 되어 있다. 소년 이치로는 엽서를 비밀로 하고 혼자 기뻐한다. 이튿날, 이치로는 산에 들어가 들고양이를 찾아 나선다.
