수진은 언니의 도움으로 의대 다니게 되었다. 하지만 대학 입학의 기쁨도 잠시뿐 장학금을 타기 위해 공부에만 매달리는데, 그러던 어느 날 친구인 승주가 소개팅을 주선하게 되면서 뜻하지 않은 일이 벌어진다. 소개팅 자리에 나왔던 남자가 그녀를 막무가내로 잡아끌며 난처하게 했다. 그 순간 뜻밖에도 동기인 지호가 나타나 그녀를 구해준다. 지호는 승주의 오래된 남자 친구이자 같은 과 동기였다. 수진은 고등학교 내내 승주에게 지호 이야기를 많이 들었었다. 집안끼리 서로 알고 있는 두 사람. 승주는 지호와 결혼할 거라고 입버릇처럼 말하곤 했었다. 하지만 수진이 보기에 그건 승주 혼자만의 생각인 것 같았다. 지호의 주변엔 여자들이 많았다. 승주도 그를 추종하는 다른 여자들과 다르지 않아 보였다. 하지만 사실은 수진도 지호를 처음 본 순간부터 사랑에 빠져버렸다. 친구가 좋아하는 남자를 사랑하게 되어버린 상황이 수진도 당황스러웠다. 하지만 수진은 자신의 감정을 들키지 않으려고 일부러 그를 본체만체하며 거리를 두었다. 그런데 갑자기 어느 날 그가 도서관에 찾아와 사귀자고 고백을 한다.
