About the author
마빈 토케이어 1936년 9월 4일 뉴욕시에서 태어나 1958년 뉴욕 에시바 대학(탈무드 학교)에서 철학과 교육학 석사학위를 받았다. 뉴욕 유태신학교에서 탈무드 문학 석사학위를 받아 1962년 랍비 자격을 취득했한 이후 미공군 유태 종군 군목으로 일본에 파견되어 큐수에서 근무하였으며, 뉴욕 예배당 랍비로 시무하였다. 1968년에는 일본으로 건너가 일본 유대교단의 랍비가 되어 재일 유대인의 상담역으로 활약하며 유대문화와 인본문화를 연구하다가 1976년에 귀국했다. 저서로는 『유태 5천 년의 지혜(탈무드)』,『유태 발상의 경이』, 『유태인의 격언집』, 『유태 조크집』등이 있다.
