About this ebook
마산(馬山)에 온 지도 벌써 두 주일이 넘었읍니다. 서울서 마산을 동경할 적에는 얼마나 아름다운 마산이었는지요! 그러난 이 마산에 딱 와서 보니까 동경할 적에 그 아름다운 마산은 아니요, 환멸과 섬섬함을 주는 쓸쓸한 마산이었나이다. 나는 남들이 두고두고 몇 번씩 되짚어 말하여 온 조선 사람의 쇠퇴라든지 우리의 몰락을 일일이 들어서 말하고 싶지 않습니다. 조선 안에서 다소간이라도 여행해 본 사람이 보고 느낀 바를 나도 보고 느끼었다 하면 더할 말이 없을 듯합니다. 병의 차도는 아직 같아서는 알 수가 없읍니다. 열도가 오르내리는 것이나 피를 뱉는 것은 전과 별로 다르지 않습니다.
