About the author
기 드 모파상은 1850년 노르망디의 미로메닐에서 태어났습니다, 1880년 6명의 젊은 작가가 쓴 단편 모음집 『메당 야화』에 「비곗덩어리」를 발표하면서 명성을 얻기 시작했으며 약 300편의 단편소설과 기행문, 시집, 희곡 등을 발표했습니다. 1883년에 발표한 장편소설 「여자의 일생」은 프랑스 사실주의 문학이 낳은 걸작입니다. 모파상은 신경질환과 갖가지 질병에 시달렸고, 자살 기도를 한 후 정신병원에 수용되었지만 끝내 회복되지 못하고 1893년 43세를 일기로 생을 마감하기에 이릅니다.
