十多年前我在阅读《好牛》这篇小小说作品时，便记住了作者黄建国的名字。在千把字的篇幅里，作者或许觉得描写牛和豹子的遭遇战太过铺张或易于写实，仅让主人公打盹过后见到的场景是：“牛豹对峙”，而“豹子咽喉处有一个窟窿，汩汩往外冒血，牛的眼睛布满血丝”。作者隐去了血腥的过程，撩拨的是读者的解读欲望。作品并没有因此而嘎然止处，留下一阔大的想象空间供读者猜谜团，而是安排这条头上一度冒出神奇光环令主人公陶醉无比的“好牛”踏着夕阳归来，蓦然间看见已经挂在墙壁上的豹皮时，顷刻间掉头鼠窜，以至于一头撞在石头上毙命。这一情节的设置相当精彩。作为胜利者的牛，为什么依然还这么恐惧失去生命的豹子？刚刚过去的那场搏斗，究竟给牛留下了什么样的记忆？于是小说的意味弥漫出来了：关于人性、动物性的思考便会在读者脑海里氤氲而起。
