About the author

Wong Man Tat, born in 1936, has loved painting since he was a child. After graduating from the Hong Kong International Art School he established a firm foundation in painting, and later became a disciple of the Lingnan master Chao Shao-an. Wong taught for many years, and before retiring he was the principal of the Lung Kai Public School in Sheung Shui, New Territories. In his free time after class he loved to go to the outskirts of the city to sketch, and he was also heavily involved in local cultural projects. He always helps his juniors, and he has served as chairman of the cultural committee of the Arts Advancement Associations of both Tai Po District and the North District. He currently serves as advisor to the Hong Kong Youth Art Association. Wong Man Tat specializes in flower-and-bird and insect-and-fish painting, and excels in painting swimming goldfish, grasping the essence of Master Chao's skill. After retiring from teaching, Wong established the Sanweizhai Studio, teaching painting in the Lingnan style to disciples who are spread throughout Hong Kong and Canada.
