十多年前我在閱讀《好牛》這篇小小說作品時，便記住了作者黃建國的名字。在千把字的篇幅裡，作者或許覺得描寫牛和豹子的遭遇戰太過鋪張或易於寫實，僅讓主人公打盹過後見到的場景是：「牛豹對峙」，而「豹子咽喉處有一個窟窿，汩汩往外冒血，牛的眼睛佈滿血絲」。作者隱去了血腥的過程，撩撥的是讀者的解讀欲望。作品並沒有因此而嘎然止處，留下一闊大的想像空間供讀者猜謎團，而是安排這條頭上一度冒出神奇光環令主人公陶醉無比的「好牛」踏著夕陽歸來，驀然間看見已經掛在牆壁上的豹皮時，頃刻間掉頭鼠竄，以至於一頭撞在石頭上斃命。這一情節的設置相當精彩。作為勝利者的牛，為什麼依然還這麼恐懼失去生命的豹子？剛剛過去的那場搏鬥，究竟給牛留下了什麼樣的記憶？於是小說的意味彌漫出來了：關於人性、動物性的思考便會在讀者腦海裡氤氳而起。
