本書介紹了黃石(Yellow Stone) 大堤頓(Great Teton) 錫安(Zion) 布萊斯(Bryce) 拱門(Arches)及大峽谷(Great Canyon)這6座著名的美國國家公園。黃石國家公園(Yellow Stone National Park)位於蒙大拿、懷俄明兩大州的交界處，面積8898平方公里(約為臺灣的四分之一大)，成立於1892年，是美國也是全世界的第一座國家公園。園內以原始又豐富的自然景觀聞名於世。其中又以黃石公園峽谷大瀑布最為有名，一道如萬馬奔騰的水流從佈滿黃色山體的山谷之中噴流而出，氣勢磅礴。再配上河谷兩岸狀如山水畫般的景色，宛若電影情境中所創造出來的仙境一般，令人驚歎。黃石公園因位於火山地質，園區內熱泉，溫泉，間歇泉等地熱景觀豐富，其中又以老忠實噴泉最為有名。
