本書的作者聯同20所大學的教師和學生組成研究組，於2010至2014年間對富士康及其工人、全球生產鏈、國家與企業的關係等，展開了為期四年的大規模調查和研究，期望通過受訪工人的眼睛呈現出高科技世界工廠的不公體制，並審問蘋果和其他與富士康合作的公司，為何對工人的訴求置若罔聞。作者通過深入的調查，全面記錄了富士康工人如夢魘般的經歷，並見證工人正不斷地通過抗爭行動，形塑一個新工人階級。同時，本書亦會向讀者展示富士康的中國工人，以及其他被捲入全球製造業生產鏈之中的勞動者，如何鑄造了世界勞工政治的新圖像。

About the author
潘毅香港理工大學應用社會學系教授，北京大學－香港理工大學中國社會工作研究中心副主任。其著作《中國女工：新興打工者主體的形成》（2005）曾奪被譽為社會科學界世界級權威的「米爾斯獎」（the C. W. Mills Award），是首位獲此獎項的亞洲學者。此書已被翻譯成法語、德語、意大利語、波蘭語和中文。其發表的學術論文主要見於Modern China、China Journal、China Quarterly、Current Sociology等刊物。另外合著和合編的中文著作有《大工地上中國農民工之歌》、《富士康輝煌背後的連環跳》等。
陳慧玲先後於香港中文大學、香港大學取得社會學學士和碩士學位，隨後前往倫敦大學里德研究院（a Reid Research Scholar）繼續攻讀博士。2013年獲頒The 2013 Great Britain-China Educational Trust for dissertation writing。2006至2009年曾擔任總部位於香港的勞工權利組織「大學師生監督無良企業行動」（SACOM）的首席協調員。其發表的論文見於Current Sociology、Global Labour Journal、Modern China、New Labor Forum等。
馬克‧塞爾登（Mark SELDEN）康奈爾大學東亞研究中心高級研究員，The Asia-Pacific Journal編委，紐約州立大學賓厄姆頓分校（Binghamton）歷史與社會學名譽教授，同時擔任Rowman & Littlefield, Routledge, and M.E. Sharpe出版社系列叢書編輯。代表作品包括China in Revolution: The Yenan Way Revisited、The Political Economy of Chinese Development、Chinese Village, Socialist State（合著）、Revolution, Resistance, and Reform in Village China（合著）等，大部分均已翻譯成中文。
