近年來台灣是南島語族的原鄉漸被認同，左鎮人、大崗山人化石的出土、澎湖海底巨大城牆、台北七星山金字塔及百餘座分布各地的人工地洞等的發現，說明台灣曾是世界最早的太陽帝國所在地，也就是12,000年前失落的姆大陸。為使台灣真正的上古史和史前史重見天日，本書是根據收集許多珍貴的史料和文物，並花費了龐大的經費、時間、體力和精神，親自做田野的調查工作，參考有限的史料、專家學者的著作、口傳歷史，加上實地調查及科學鑑定的成果，就目前所得的資料編著而成。由於姆大陸沉沒以前的冰河期，海平面比現在低約一百二十公尺，琉球不但與台灣接壤，而且也是由台灣東北方三貂角伸出去的長條形半島，與日本並不接壤， 因此當時琉球是屬於台灣的一部分。本書以台灣人的立場來探討台灣的歷史，將有關台灣上古史分成十九章，以各自不同的角度來探討，或可填入「台灣島史」空白中最前段的部分。全書共有十七萬餘字、圖片200幅。
