本書依照時代劃分成兩冊《唐詩選箋：初唐－盛唐》、《唐詩選箋：中唐－晚唐》，所選唐詩，詩人共一百九十三位，詩歌約八百首。除以早期文本與考釋成果為底本，並儘可能吸收新進學術研究成果，嘗試提供一部適合當代的唐詩經典選本。
本書具有以下特點：

一、原文：以中華書局一九九九年《全唐詩》為底本精選編輯而成，並按照五言、七言、近體、古體的順序編排，便於讀者閱讀。
二、詩人小傳：兼顧生平、文學和評價，參照國內外資料，相互參證，裁量而定。
三、注釋：針對關鍵、疑難之字詞、人名、地名、典故、本事等予以精注。語言簡潔，箋注精當。

About the author

李由

籍貫江蘇新沂。1983年起先後就讀於北京師範大學、中國人民大學，獲經濟學學士、碩士和博士學位，現任北京師範大學經濟與工商管理學院教授，主要從事經濟學、管理學類研究，1984年起發表論文、文章，出版專著8部，學術成果獲第七、八、十一屆北京市哲學社會科學優秀科研成果一、二等獎和中國教育部第二屆人文社會科學科研成果二等獎。專業工作之餘，涉獵政治學、法學、歷史、文學等領域，發表相關文章數十篇。
