原作雖然不白話但生動有趣的多，聖賢行止志節一字一句都含有珠璣。這本是改寫的。

　　關於《封神演義》的作者歷來眾說紛紜，其中最被人們接受的說法是許仲琳或陸西星。前者是明代的落第文人，生平不詳；後者是明代的道士，因「九試不遇」而出家。無論作者是誰，其成書時間都大致在明朝隆慶、萬曆年間。
