本書共包含四編十五章。第一編導論共有五章，主要探討臺灣有關宗教團體與法律的研究現況、宗教與法律的關係、臺灣現階段跟宗教有關的法律、臺灣的宗教團體的組織型態─非營利組織的角度及臺灣宗教團體在法律上的地位與處境─非營利組織相關法規。第二編從非營利組織觀點分析臺灣的宗教團體，內容分析臺灣財團法人宗教團體、社團法人宗教團體、寺廟宗教團體及不具法律權利主體地位的宗教團體─神壇的法律地位並從法律的角度分析宗教團體與信徒間的關係。第三編分析臺灣三個重要的宗教組織，分別是行天宮宗教團體、慈濟宗教團體及臺灣基督長老教會宗教團體。第四編主要分析臺灣宗教立法應該何去何從，從「宗教團體法草案」的內容分析臺灣宗教團體立法的必要性與宗教立法應該包含的範圍，並嘗試從個人、宗教團體、宗教信仰與國家法律角度分析宗教立法的必要性。
