張仲景對後世最大的貢獻之一，就是完成了《傷寒雜病論》一書。這本書融合了東漢以前的醫學成就與著作，是中國醫學史上第一部理、法、方、藥兼備的書籍。內容貫通《黃帝內經》、《難經》、《神農本草經》、《湯液經》等典籍，是中國醫學史上第一部把中醫基礎（醫經）與經驗用方（經方）融為一體的著作。《傷寒雜病論》記載的許多方劑與辯證的方法，雖然經過了這麼長的時間，迄今仍相當實用。許多後世中醫師常常利用《傷寒雜病論》裡的方子，經加減、化裁後產生改良的方子，因此《傷寒雜病論》又有「群方之祖」的美稱。這本書除了列舉治療的方式外，還記載了服藥後的護理、照顧及可能的反應，是一本重要的中醫藥學書籍。（醫聖張仲景，李俊廷、王怡琇、黃耿祥報導）
