全名《忠孝勇烈木蘭傳》，又名《忠孝勇烈奇女傳》，四卷三十二回，有清代刊本。書中不題撰人。本書是根據北朝民歌《木蘭辭》和有關史書以及民間廣為流傳的木蘭代父從軍的故事敷衍創作而成的。其中，有的人物和情節還受到了唐代、明代傳奇的影響與啟發。書中寫木蘭從軍十二載，轉戰千里，備覺艱辛，後因屢建奇功而被封為將軍。然最後竟蒙冤涉進武則天亂國案中，不得已剖心自殺以表對朝廷的忠誠，結局慘烈異常。木蘭從軍的故事早已流傳古今，家喻戶曉。本書將這一故事加以細緻描寫，情節更為具體。同時，書中指稱木蘭姓朱，家住黃陂，也是有一定根據的。明代人焦竑曾考證黃陂古為木蘭縣，有木蘭山、將軍塚、忠烈廟等。另外，《黃陂縣志》中有《木蘭傳》一篇，內容與本書基本相同。
