Андрей (древнегреч. «мужественный, храбрый, мужчина») – один их 12 апостолов, брат Симона Петра. Был учеником Иоанна Крестителя, которого оставил, чтобы следовать за Иисусом Христом. Цифра 12 означала древнее количество племен израилевых, что, в свою очередь, восходит к обожествлению Луны, которая в течение года меняет 12 фаз. В византийской традиции апостола Андрея называют Первозванным, чтобы доказать первичность византийской (православной) церкви.
