About the author

최영재는 1947년 서울에서 태어났다. 1977년 ≪기독교 교육≫에서 동시 ＜기도할 때＞로 가작 입선했다. 이듬해인 1978년 ≪동아일보≫ 신춘문예에 동시 ＜쳇바퀴와 다람쥐＞가 당선되었다. ≪별난 가족≫, ≪축구 국민학교≫, ≪우리 좋으신 선생님≫, ≪말하는 숲≫ 등 수많은 책을 펴냈으며, 1988년 제11회 한국동화문학상, 1995년 제5회 어린이가 뽑은 올해의 작가상, 1998년 제3회 박경종 아동문학상, 2009년 황조근정훈장을 받았다.
